What is a Product Analyst?

A Product Analyst is a specialized role within product teams that focuses on leveraging data to understand how users interact with a product and identify opportunities for improvement. They serve as the analytical backbone of product development, translating raw data into meaningful insights that guide everything from feature prioritization to overall product strategy. Unlike general business analysts, Product Analysts have deep expertise in product-specific metrics, A/B testing frameworks, and user segmentation techniques tailored to digital products.

What does a Product Analyst do?

Product Analysts perform a range of data-centric activities to support product lifecycle management. They collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from sources like SQL databases, analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Amplitude), and user feedback tools to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as engagement rates, conversion funnels, and retention metrics. They design and execute A/B tests to validate hypotheses about feature changes, create dashboards and reports to track product health, and collaborate with product managers, engineers, and designers to recommend data-driven optimizations. Additionally, they conduct competitive analysis and market research to ensure the product remains aligned with user needs and industry trends.
