We are seeking an experienced News Producer to lead our dynamic news team in creating compelling, accurate, and timely news content for our broadcast and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for shaping daily news coverage, making editorial decisions, and ensuring our content meets the highest journalistic standards while engaging our audience across multiple media channels.
News Producer responsibilities include:
1. Develop and execute daily news coverage plans for broadcast and digital platforms
2. Lead editorial meetings to assign stories and determine news priorities
3. Write, edit, and review scripts for accuracy, clarity, and AP style compliance
4. Coordinate with reporters, anchors, photographers, and editors to produce high-quality segments
5. Manage live breaking news coverage and make real-time editorial decisions
6. Oversee graphics, video, and other visual elements to enhance storytelling
7. Collaborate with digital team to optimize content for online and social media platforms
8. Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources for developing stories
9. Ensure all content complies with FCC regulations and station policies
10. Manage show timing and transitions during live broadcasts
1. Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
2. Minimum 3 years of experience as a news producer in a television news environment
3. Proven ability to make quick, sound editorial decisions under pressure
4. Exceptional writing skills with strong command of AP style and grammar
5. Proficiency with newsroom computer systems (e.g., iNews, ENPS)
6. Deep understanding of libel laws, FCC regulations, and journalistic ethics
7. Experience producing live breaking news and severe weather coverage
8. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
9. Knowledge of current events and local/national news landscape
10. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience in top 50 market television news production
2. Demonstrated success in growing ratings and audience engagement
3. Proficiency with Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or similar editing software
4. Experience with social media management and digital content strategy
5. Background in investigative journalism or long-form storytelling
6. Knowledge of Nielsen ratings system and audience metrics analysis
7. Experience mentoring or training junior producers and production staff
8. Bilingual abilities (Spanish preferred in many US markets)
9. Experience with multi-platform content distribution strategies
10. Degree from an accredited journalism school or program
