Transportation Manager responsibilities include:
1. Develop and implement transportation strategies to optimize route planning and reduce operational costs
2. Manage daily fleet operations including dispatch, routing, and driver scheduling
3. Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and state transportation laws
4. Monitor and analyze key performance metrics (on-time delivery, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs)
5. Negotiate and manage relationships with carriers, third-party logistics providers, and vendors
6. Implement and maintain transportation management systems (TMS) and tracking technologies
7. Lead safety programs and conduct regular driver training and compliance audits
8. Manage transportation budget and control expenses while maintaining service quality
1. Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field
2. 5+ years of transportation management experience in US logistics operations
3. Comprehensive knowledge of DOT regulations and FMCSA compliance requirements
4. Proven experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and routing software
5. Strong analytical skills with experience in KPI monitoring and cost control
6. Valid CDL and clean driving record (or ability to obtain)
7. Experience in fleet maintenance management and vendor negotiations
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration
2. Experience in both truckload and LTL transportation operations
3. Certification in Transportation and Logistics (CTL) or CPIM certification
4. Experience with ELD implementation and compliance
5. Background in temperature-controlled or hazardous materials transportation
6. Previous management experience in unionized transportation environments
7. Familiarity with cross-border transportation operations (US-Canada/Mexico)
