The GDPR Data Protection Officer (DPO) will serve as the organization's primary expert on data protection compliance, ensuring adherence to GDPR regulations and other relevant data privacy laws. This role requires developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive data protection strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard personal data and mitigate privacy risks across all organizational operations.
GDPR Data Protection Officer responsibilities include:
1. Develop and implement GDPR-compliant data protection policies and procedures
2. Conduct regular data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and privacy audits
3. Serve as the primary contact for data subjects and supervisory authorities regarding data protection matters
4. Monitor organizational compliance with GDPR requirements and provide compliance reports to executive management
5. Establish and maintain records of processing activities (ROPAs) as required by Article 30 of GDPR
6. Provide expert guidance on data protection by design and by default principles
7. Investigate and respond to data breaches within mandated timeframes
8. Deliver data protection training and awareness programs to staff at all levels
9. Advise on data processing agreements and international data transfer mechanisms
10. Monitor regulatory developments and update policies accordingly
1. Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) certification
2. Minimum 5 years of direct GDPR compliance experience
3. Expert knowledge of GDPR Articles and Recitals
4. Experience conducting DPIAs and managing ROPAs
5. Proven ability to develop and implement data protection policies
6. Strong understanding of data breach notification procedures
7. Experience liaising with supervisory authorities
8. Excellent knowledge of national and European data protection laws
9. Bachelor's degree in Law, Information Security, or related field
10. Demonstrated experience in privacy program management
Preferred Qualifications
1. Additional privacy certifications (CIPM, CIPT, or FIP)
2. Experience in specific industry sectors (healthcare, finance, or technology)
3. Master's degree in Data Protection Law or related discipline
4. Experience with OneTrust or similar GDPR compliance software
5. Previous DPO role in multinational organization
6. Knowledge of other privacy frameworks (CCPA, LGPD, or PIPEDA)
7. Experience with international data transfer mechanisms (SCCs, BCRs)
8. Background in both legal and technical aspects of data protection
9. Experience in managing cross-border data protection issues
10. Previous testimony experience with regulatory bodies
