Copy Editor responsibilities include:
1. Proofread and edit digital and print content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors
2. Verify factual accuracy of information through reliable sources and fact-checking databases
3. Ensure consistency with Chicago Manual of Style and in-house style guidelines
4. Collaborate with writers and content creators to improve overall content quality
5. Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
6. Maintain brand voice consistency across all marketing materials and publications
7. Prepare final copy for publication across various platforms (web, print, social media)
1. Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
2. 3+ years of professional copy editing experience in publishing or media
3. Expert knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style
4. Exceptional command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation rules
5. Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat markup tools and Microsoft Track Changes
6. Strong fact-checking and research capabilities using standard reference materials
7. Ability to work under pressure and meet daily deadlines in fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, or similar)
2. Background in editing technical, scientific, or academic content
3. Familiarity with SEO principles and digital content optimization
4. Experience working in newsroom environment or publishing house
5. Knowledge of copyright laws and plagiarism detection software
6. Previous experience mentoring junior editors or writers
7. Certification from ACES: The Society for Editing or equivalent professional organization
