Unit Clerk responsibilities include:
1. Manage patient admission, transfer, and discharge documentation processes
2. Answer unit telephones, screen calls, and direct inquiries to appropriate personnel
3. Maintain and update patient charts and electronic health records (Epic, Cerner, or Meditech)
4. Coordinate patient appointments and diagnostic testing schedules
5. Process physician orders and ensure timely communication to nursing staff
6. Manage unit supplies inventory and place orders as needed
7. Serve as liaison between clinical staff, patients, families, and other departments
8. Maintain unit log books and compliance documentation
9. Handle sensitive patient information with strict confidentiality
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
2. Minimum 1 year of healthcare administrative experience
3. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems
4. Strong knowledge of medical terminology
5. Excellent communication and customer service skills
