This role ensures patient safety, prevents falls, and assists with basic needs while maintaining a therapeutic environment in healthcare settings.
Patient Sitter responsibilities include:
1. Provide constant one-on-one observation of high-risk patients
2. Monitor patient behavior for signs of agitation, confusion, or safety risks
3. Immediately alert nursing staff to changes in patient condition or emergencies
4. Prevent patient falls, wandering, or self-harm attempts
5. Assist with basic patient needs including hydration, feeding, and comfort measures
6. Document patient behavior and observations every 15-30 minutes
7. Maintain patient confidentiality and dignity at all times
8. Accompany patients during transport within the facility
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
3. Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods
4. Physical capability to assist with patient mobility and prevent falls
5. Clear verbal and written communication skills
6. Successful completion of healthcare facility orientation program
7. Ability to follow precise protocols and emergency procedures
Preferred Qualifications
1. 6+ months experience as patient sitter or similar healthcare role
2. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
3. Experience with dementia or behavioral health patients
4. Knowledge of medical terminology
5. Previous hospital or long-term care facility experience
6. Crisis prevention intervention training
7. Multilingual abilities in Spanish or other common patient languages

2. Experience with electronic health record documentation
