Custodian responsibilities include:
1. Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting all assigned areas
2. Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and other common areas using appropriate chemicals and equipment
3. Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly according to facility protocols
4. Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
5. Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and reporting major repairs
6. Strip, wax, and polish floors using industrial cleaning equipment
7. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using specific cleaning solutions
8. Follow established safety procedures and properly handle hazardous materials
9. Secure building by locking doors and setting alarms after cleaning shifts
10. Respond promptly to special cleaning requests and emergency spills
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
2. Minimum 1 year of professional cleaning or custodial experience
3. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
4. Knowledge of proper chemical handling and safety procedures
5. Physical stamina to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods
6. Reliable transportation and consistent attendance record
7. Basic understanding of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance
8. Ability to read and understand safety data sheets (SDS)
9. Must pass background check and drug screening
10. Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
1. 2+ years of commercial or institutional custodial experience
2. Experience with floor care equipment (buffers, burnishers, extractors)
3. OSHA or similar safety certification
4. Experience in healthcare, educational, or corporate facility cleaning
5. Bilingual abilities (Spanish/English)
6. Knowledge of green cleaning practices and eco-friendly products
7. Experience with automated cleaning systems
8. Previous training in bloodborne pathogens protocol
9. Valid driver's license for multi-location facilities
10. Experience maintaining cleaning equipment and performing minor repairs
