Certified lifeguard responsibilities include:
1. Continuously monitor swimming areas and patrons to prevent accidents and identify distressed swimmers
2. Perform water rescues using appropriate techniques and equipment when necessary
3. Provide first aid, CPR, and AED emergency care following American Red Cross protocols
4. Enforce all facility rules and regulations consistently and professionally
5. Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment and facility areas
6. Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and daily safety checks
7. Assist with facility maintenance including water quality testing and cleaning
8. Provide excellent customer service and respond to patron inquiries
1. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent
2. Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification
3. Current First Aid certification
4. Ability to pass pre-employment swimming test (300-yard swim, tread water, brick retrieval)
5. Minimum age of 16 years (varies by state regulations)
6. Strong swimming skills and physical endurance
7. Excellent vision and hearing capabilities
8. Ability to work variable hours including weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
1. 1+ years of lifeguarding experience at public aquatic facilities
2. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification
3. Experience working with diverse age groups and populations
4. Previous customer service experience
5. Knowledge of pool chemical maintenance and water testing
6. Bilingual communication skills (Spanish preferred in many regions)
