What is a Air Traffic Controller?
An Air Traffic Controller is a highly trained aviation professional who monitors and directs aircraft movements in controlled airspace and on airport surfaces. They work in control towers, terminal radar approach facilities, or en-route centers, using advanced technology to provide pilots with clearances, instructions, and critical safety information. This role requires exceptional concentration, decision-making under pressure, and strict adherence to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) protocols to maintain the integrity of the National Airspace System.
What does a Air Traffic Controller do?
Air Traffic Controllers perform several key functions: they issue takeoff and landing instructions, provide altitude and heading adjustments, monitor aircraft spacing to prevent conflicts, and respond to emergencies such as mechanical failures or weather hazards. They coordinate with adjacent sectors, manage traffic flow during peak periods, and ensure all operations comply with FAA regulations.
