What is a Structural Engineer?

A Structural Engineer is a specialized civil engineering professional focused on the design, analysis, and integrity of load-bearing structures. They apply principles of physics, mathematics, and material science to create safe, efficient, and sustainable structures that resist forces like gravity, wind, earthquakes, and human use. This role requires rigorous education, professional licensure (PE license in the US), and adherence to building codes and safety standards.

What does a Structural Engineer do?

Structural Engineers perform detailed calculations to design beams, columns, foundations, and other structural elements. They analyze blueprints, create structural models using software like SAP2000 or ETABS, and specify materials such as steel, concrete, or timber.
