Nuclear engineer responsibilities include:
1. Design and develop nuclear equipment such as reactor cores, radiation shielding, and associated instrumentation
2. Monitor and test nuclear reactor operations to ensure safety and efficiency compliance with NRC regulations
3. Conduct thermal-hydraulic analyses and neutronics calculations for core performance optimization
4. Develop operational radiation protection procedures and emergency response plans
5. Prepare technical reports and documentation for regulatory submissions and compliance audits
6. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on nuclear fuel cycle management and waste disposal solutions
7. Perform safety evaluations using probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) methodologies
1. Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program
2. Minimum 3 years of experience in nuclear systems design or operations
3. Proficiency with nuclear simulation software (MCNP, RELAP5, or similar)
4. Thorough understanding of 10 CFR regulations and NRC requirements
5. Strong background in reactor physics, thermal-hydraulics, and radiation protection
6. Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
7. Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within 2 years
Preferred Qualifications
