Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Cable Technician to install, maintain, and repair various cable systems including broadband internet, cable television, telephone, and fiber optic services for residential and commercial customers. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal signal quality, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide exceptional customer service while adhering to safety protocols and industry standards.
Cable Technician responsibilities include:
1. Install and configure coaxial, fiber optic, and Ethernet cables for internet, TV, and phone services
2. Perform signal quality tests using specialized equipment such as signal level meters and TDRs
3. Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues, signal impairments, and service interruptions
4. Mount and align satellite dishes and outdoor equipment according to specifications
5. Educate customers on system operation, equipment usage, and basic troubleshooting
6. Maintain accurate installation records, work orders, and inventory documentation
7. Adhere to NEC (National Electrical Code) and OSHA safety standards at all worksites
8. Utilize company-provided software for scheduling, mapping, and service documentation
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
2. Minimum 2 years of proven cable installation/technical experience
3. Valid driver's license with clean driving record
4. Ability to pass comprehensive background check and drug screening
5. Physical capability to lift 75+ pounds, work at heights, and maneuver in confined spaces
6. Basic understanding of IP networking, RF technology, and telecommunications principles
7. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and cable installation equipment
8. Availability for flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations
Preferred Qualifications
1. SCTE (Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers) certification
2. Experience with fiber optic splicing and termination (Fusion splicing certification)
3. CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCENT certification
4. Previous experience with aerial bucket truck operation
5. Knowledge of home security system integration with cable services
6. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) for customer communication
7. Associate's degree in telecommunications or related technical field
8. Experience with CAT5e/CAT6 structured cabling systems

1. Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) accreditation
