What is a Night Auditor?
A Night Auditor is a hospitality professional who works the overnight shift at a hotel, typically from late evening to early morning. This role combines front desk duties with accounting responsibilities, serving as both a guest service representative and a financial auditor during nighttime hours when most administrative staff are off-duty. Night Auditors are critical for ensuring the hotel's daily financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled, while also addressing guest needs that arise during non-traditional hours.
What does a Night Auditor do?
Night Auditors perform a dual role of guest service and financial management. They process guest check-ins and check-outs, handle reservations, and respond to guest requests or complaints throughout the night. Their primary accounting function involves running end-of-day reports, reconciling daily revenue across all departments (rooms, food and beverage, etc.), verifying payment transactions, and preparing financial reports for management. They also balance credit card transactions, update room rates, and ensure all financial data accurately transfers to the hotel's accounting system. Additionally, Night Auditors may perform light security duties, monitor property safety, and prepare morning reports for the incoming day shift.
